Studying Equity in STEM Learning Environments

This talk considers how disparities in access to STEM professions have been impacted by broad historical and social processes, as well as everyday processes of education.

I suggest a dual focus on equity and quality of learning in STEM classroom environments as a focus that can respond to these societal challenges through local change. I present examples of my prior work and an in-progress research design focused on engaging engineering professors to shift their classrooms in response to key equity goals. The talk will conclude with a discussion about how the current research methods are constituted and what opportunities might exist for innovation and automation.
