Leadership Training: Susan Day & Teresa Landt

Leaders of convergent research teams have unique challenges associated with integrating diverse disciplinary perspectives, research methods and vocabulary.

In the context of team science, knowledge integration increases the time needed to communicate effectively about research goals and coordinate scientific tasks. Our workshop will provide an overview of the extensive body of research on team leadership highlighting styles and strategies that foster positive interpersonal processes. Dr. Theresa Lant will also discuss evidenced-based leadership strategies developed through research and training conducted with large interdisciplinary medical teams. Several strands of research and data suggest that these leadership strategies can effectively advance scientific and technological innovation by increasing research impact, novelty, productivity and reach. Our goal for the workshop is to help EnTIRE leaders tailor these strategies to increase the consortium’s effectiveness over time.
